And this is my prayer in the battle
When triumph is still on it’s way
I am a conqueror and co-heir with Christ
So firm on His promise I’ll stand.
In my last blog post, I explained a bit about the season I have been in over the last year; one of searching, questions, and growth. Even though it has been hard, I believe I have learned lessons that have shaped my walk in powerful ways. One of the things I have grown to appreciate even more through this time is the power and presence of the Holy Spirit.
In the words of one of my good friends, Becca Daniels, “If you have never felt the Holy Spirit working in your life, you are missing out!” The Holy Spirit has spoken directly to my heart in a way that no one else can; sometimes in convicting grace and other times in simple love. But the good news (literally.. the Gospel) is that that the Spirit is for everyone and I would love to talk to you about it sometime! (but more on that later)
When reading through the Old Testament, I am amazed by the faith of the people of God. If you are looking for a list of people to inspire you, visit Hebrews 11. The chapter starts out by saying:
Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for.
Faith is being sure and steadfast in hoping for the eternal Glory promised to us. It is being certain that God is who he said He is, always. What amazes me is that the “ancients” never felt God speak to them in their hearts. The few and fortunate got to hear Him audibly speak (awesome!). At this time, the Holy Spirit hadn’t come yet so the people never felt it working in their lives; yet they still held the faith.
I can just see it now–one day in Heaven, we are going to be side by side with all of the people we have been reading about. We’ll run up to, say, Moses and have this conversation:
“Wow! What was it like to have God speak to you in a burning bush?!”
Moses: “No, you tell me how it was to be able to pray to God and talk to Him any time you want–and him speak back!”
Us: “But tell me how it was to have a cloud of God lead you by day and fire lead you by night”.
Moses: “I would rather hear how it was to have the Spirit guide you your whole life!”
When we get discouraged, we have to stand on the promises God made to us: “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.”
I encourage you to dive in to what the Holy Spirit means to you. Maybe you have no idea who I’m talking about. Find out! Like I said, I would love to talk to you about Him. If you know about Him, but don’t know Him, seek Him this week. Ask the Sprit to reveal itself in new ways to you. And finally, if you have a great relationship with the Spirit, praise Him and thank Him for that! He wants to know us all deeper, no matter where we are at. You are a conquerer and coheir with Christ, so stand firm on that promises.
