Location: Los Chiles, Costa Rica
Ministry Contact: Don Tony and Doña Rosita
Types of Ministry: Monday thru Wednesday we are doing manual labor. So far, we have built concrete steps up to a sanctuary, leveled out the yard, shoveled rocks, and transported a greenhouse from one place to another. On Saturdays and Sundays we have kids club in neighboring towns.
Language: Spanish
Wifi: There is an internet cafe down the road that we can walk to. It is about $1/hour for wifi
Sleeping: We have 4 bunk beds for us to sleep in a bedroom off the kitchen. We are staying at the Ministry contact’s house for the month.
Showers: There is a shower in the house for the 8 of us to share together.
Toilets: American style, except we still can’t flush any toilet paper.
Typical food: Rice, beans, yuka (think potato), plantains, soup, mango, bananas, pineapple, and coffee twice a day at breakfast and 3.
Common Phrases: When someone says thank you, the proper response is “Con mucho gusto”, the English equivalent to “my pleasure”.
Adventure days: Our first adventure day we spent the morning at a river exploring, swimming, and laying out on rocks. That afternoon we drove to a hot spring, which was like a natural hot tub outside! While we were there, our host led a local couple that was their on vacation to Christ! We ended the day with some delicious pizza, something I’ve craved more out of the country than I ever did in America.
Our second adventure day we went to a town a couple hours away, called Jaco. We loaded up the car with a local family from the church we have been working with. It felt like a typical family road trip, stopping on the side of the road for snacks and all. We spent the first day of our trip at their family ranch, riding horses down by the river. I had a run away horse, so there is a first time for everything! We ended the day by watching the sunset at a local beach.
Our second day we went into the town of Jaco and met up with two other World Race teams for lunch! We also spent time playing in the waves, boogie boarding, eating delicious American food, and shopping. It was a much needed beach therapy day.
Fundraising Update: I am currently at $13, 555!! Amazing!! The Lord has allowed me to already learn and do so much by being on the race for 3 months. My next deadline is April 30th to be FULLY FUNDED! This means I need to raise $3, 407 in the next month–with God it’s possible!! I would love it if you would donate to help me stay on the field and continue the work that has been started!
What’s next? PANAMA ON APRIL 2ND. We are excited to see what the Lord has in store!
