I’M FINALLY BACK IN ASIA!!!
For the longest time, I have had a heart towards basically all things Asian. This probably stemmed from when my siblings were adopted, but the love has grown. I knew that I wanted to serve in Asia on the World Race, so I am excited to be living out part of that dream. So here we are!
Cambodia update
Location: Battambang, Cambodia
Ministry Contact: New Hope School
Types of Ministry: We are teaching English! We have class from 7:30-10:30 and 2-5 every day, with 2 different sets of students. The school is set up to give children who might not be able to afford school a Christian education. I already love my students and we are only 4 days in. It is challenging, but rewarding at the same time. My team definitely has a new found appreciate for all of the teachers out there! Y’all rock!
Language: Khmer
Weather: HOT. It is also Cambodia’s rainy season, so random downpours is not uncommon. It makes it cooler, but also brings the humidity.
Wifi: We take a tuk tuk into town (about 10-15 minutes) to cafes there. We normally head to Eden cafe. Its a cute coffee shop/cafe owned by YWAM!
Sleeping: We are sleeping in the pastor’s living room and spare bedroom. Three girls share a queen bed in a room with most of our packs, and 5 of us are sleeping on our sleeping pads in the living room.
Showers: We have a shower when the water is running. There is just a shower head in the bathroom with no curtain or anything, so the bathroom floor is always wet.
Toilets: 4 toilets, but no running water. We have to pour more water in the bowl to flush anything—to behind the bathroom.
Typical food: Amazing!! Breakfast is normally bread/donuts from the bakery and coffee (more of a latte mixed with sweet and condensed milk). Lunch and dinner have a wide variety of asian dishes, but we always have fruit (pineapple, apples, and dragon fruit). We normally have 2-3 different kinds of meat throughout the dishes, which is great after Africa! We definitely enjoy all the meat and veggies.
Adventure days: Last weekend we went to caves that were involved in part of the Cambodia genocide. It was a heavy day, but we just have to remember that Jesus has the victory! We also got to walk around a few Buddhist temples and experience more of their culture. This month we get to also visit Angkor Wat at Siem Reap and I am so excited!
