Indonesia update
Location: Jakarta, Indonesia. The second largest city in the world population wise. It has 1 MILLION more people than NYC.
Types of Ministry: Two days a week we have ATL ministry (“Ask the Lord”) where we ask God who he wants us to talk to and where he wants us to go. Three days a week we serve at a refugee center. They serve some of the 14,000 refugees in Indonesia from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Iran, teaching them english and other practical skills. We also are part of club (like young life) and a street-kids dance ministry! It’s a great month!
Language: Bahasa
Weather: Back to the heat! Usually in the afternoon, there is a torrential downpour! Good timing to lose my rain jacket..
Wifi: Our wifi at the hotel is only near the main gate. We spend a lot of time at starbuck and J.co using their wifi. Thankfully they have become our friends so they let us use it without always buying things 🙂
Sleeping: The boys share a room with our host at his apartment (2 in the bed and 3 on the floor). The Fowler’s, Hery, and I are down the road at a little hotel. We aren’t there often, but it has what we need!
Showers: Our hotel’s shower head doesn’t actually hang up on the wall, so we normally shower at the gym after our workout! Sometimes we enjoy the sauna too 🙂
Toilets: Our home has westerns! Although we find ourselves using the squatty often. Also, toilet paper is rare, but more common than Malaysia
Typical food: There are two meals we eat pretty regularly: Nasi Georang and Mei Georang (aka fried rice and fried noodles). We also eat a lot of teriyaki chicken and rice.
Adventure days: We got to go to a small island about a two hour boat ride off of Jakarta, called Tiger Island. It was beautiful!! We spent the afternoon snorkeling, paddle boarding, and just enjoying the amazing scenery!
We leave today to Debrief with the squad in BALI! for a week before heading back to America. Pray we can transition well back into American culture and home!
