This is funny right??!
It's from a movie called Hitch with Will Smith and Eva Mendes. It is funny and quirky and a favorite of mine. This is one of the best scenes when Hitch (Will S.) has an allergic reaction to some sea food he eats and one side of his face swells up. His reaction is priceless.
Well, I had my very own Hitch experience a few days ago. We had been teaching English at a local Chaiyahpum school and Director C asked us if we wanted to ride horses over our lunch break…. YES PLEASE! We laughed at each other for trying to make the horse run and laughed even harder when he did run and that person got scared. And we laughed when we almost boosted Peggy over the horse instead of on the horse. It was a lot of fun.
Until this happened…

Yep. I turned into Hitch. My right eye was swollen inside and out: eye ball, eye lid, everything. My face itched SO bad and I couldn't stop sneezing much less open the eye to see where I was walking. I tripped over everything…
And to make it worse my left eye started to swell up too!
The only thing I could think about was Hitch and how much this situation was like his. It happened so fast and I freaked out. I didn't know it was really bad until Jaime, my team mate who worked in an ER before the race, could only say "We need benadryl! She needs to take benadryl!" Lots and lots of benadryl… Truth is I didn't take benadryl because they don't have it in the middle-of-nowhere town I'm in. So we did the only logical thing… we went to the hospital. I had to get a shot in my bum and eye drops and pills.
Lessons learned: 1. If you're allergic to it in America you're allergic to it overseas and 2. Don't scratch your eyes until you can wash your hands
Hope this made you laugh like I did!
Love.Love.

P.S. Thai's have jokes… the first thing the Director said to me the next day was "You can ride horse after school…"
