God has been teaching me so much this month in Albania. One of the biggest lessons that I am learning is that God is BIG TIME! Sometimes I tend to put God in a box, not purposefully, but it just happens that way. I think that I know how God is going to move in a certain situation or how others are going to respond to Him; and I forget that I am following the Author and Creator of life (not just mine) but All of life in every aspect. Every Saturday, here in Albania, we have a gathering for the youth where someone will bring a message, songs will be sung, games are played. Yesterday was a little different.
When we got here two weeks ago we started going to schools and passing out flyers, inviting kids to come to this weekly meeting on the 29th of October (yesterday). Some kids took the flyers, some made sarcastic comments, some asked questions, and some threw their flyers on the ground. The goal of this youth gathering was to evangelize to the kids who haven’t heard of Christ. Coan, our ministry contact, asked our team if we could do the Lifehouse drama and come up with a few games for the kids to play. So we practiced the drama, came up with games, and showed up yesterday ready to go.
While I was praying and preparing for Saturday I wasn’t really sure if the kids were going to understand the message that we were sending. I mean, most of the kids are not believers, so how are they going to understand it? Is this drama really going to make a difference?
Like I said, God taught me a lesson. Half way through the drama (when Jesus comes in to save the girl) the kids starting clapping (louder than I have ever heard anyone clap for this drama) and standing up. I was amazed! I heard God say, “Kayla, stop putting me in boxes. I am so much bigger than that. These are my children and I can reveal myself to them however I chose.”
The rest of our Saturday gathering consisted of two videos; one of Adam and Eve and the other was a scene from Passion of the Christ when Jesus was crucified, one of the youth who plays the violin, a guy who is pretty much the best beat boxer ever, a few fun games, and then of course some dancing. When all was said and done 15 kids made a first time decision for Christ, 15!! That is huge!
So, the moral of my blog is to not but God in a Box. He is soooo much bigger than that!
Here is the video.. check it out if you have some time 🙂
