Confession time:
We have both been kind of bad at this whole blogging thing recently. For the past several months, honestly. Now we do realize there is no definite equation or standard that defines how a “perfect” blog is supposed to function. Whatever that standard is for us, we just don’t feel as if we have been meeting it well enough—and we want to be!
When we started out on the World Race in January, we wanted to keep this blog going for a number of reasons:
- We wanted to bring glory to God by telling the stories of how He is working in our lives, and changing the lives of those in every country we pass through. That’s #1. It always has been. God is glorified in the unspoken moments just as much as he is about the ones that end up on our blog. But there’s something about experiencing God and seeing Him work in your life that just makes you want to talk about it!
Psalm 71:15 “My mouth will tell of your righteous deeds, of your saving acts all day long—though I know not how to relate them all.
- Blogging is a fantastic way to process! There is so much going on during this season of our lives. So many countries, peoples, ministries, travel days, obstacles, lessons learned—the list goes on! Blogging has proven to be a beneficial practice in really putting into words the thoughts and reflections we are both having as we move around the world and witness a variety of things. From the simple, mundane day-to-day tasks to the wonderful spiritual truths we are learning and applying in our life and marriage, this blog helps us really take a step back and process what’s going on and how we can tell others about those experiences!
- You guys actually care! This was something we both really struggled with during the start of the Race. It seemed a little self-centered to broadcast what’s going on in our life and expect others to read about it on a regular basis. But whether 4 people read our blog, or 400, those who are reading it truly care about what’s going on in our world, or else they wouldn’t be reading it at all. This blog as been a catalyst for so many genuine encounters and conversations with others who have been supporting us in prayer, and even those who don’t believe in God, but have been impacted by our journey. Finally understanding that the blog is beneficial to those who are (and have been since day 1) invested in us and our journey has been an eye-opening lesson for the two of us.
(There are more reasons than this, but for the sake of time these are the most important ones)
The lack of blogs from the field doesn’t come from a lack of stories. Over the past few months God has placed us in a position where we have a plethora of places and people we can talk about. The scarcity of our blogs doesn’t come from a lack of caring either. We want to be sharing with you about what’s going on with us.
To be honest, life just gets busy. There are so many things competing for our time, and blogging gets tossed to the wayside time and time again. Most of the time that is okay. Don’t worry, we aren’t beating ourselves up about choosing to do more important things instead of blogging. The whole reason for this blog post alone isn’t to have a pity party and make excuses for not blogging, but instead highlight the importance of blogging to us, and the fact that we want to be doing it a little more than we have been.
So here’s two things you can expect in the future:
- More blogs! In the coming months, we will be trying to post a little more regularly about what God is teaching us as we move into our last 4 months of the World Race.
- An open invitation for more interaction! We don’t just post these things so you can read them. That’s the first step, but the second step is to tell us what YOU are thinking. We want to hear your thoughts and reflections about what you think as you read the blog. So don’t be shy! Leave a comment. Shoot us an email. Whether it’s a prayer, a verse, a question, or just a random thought or observation—we wan’t to hear from you and interact with those who are faithfully and prayerfully supporting us.
God has been teaching us a lot on the World Race, and this blog exists so we can communicate with you the things that we are learning and experiencing. We look forward to taking advantage of this opportunity more in the coming months, and eagerly await your feedback and the deepening of our relationships with each of you.
Sincerely,
Kaydan and Katherine
Although we have been a little short on the blogs, there are a few videos on the YouTube channel that you can catch up on if you haven’t seen them yet!
