It's hard to believe that it is already January of 2014. It feels like only weeks ago that Google brought me to The World Race. Yeah, that is actually how this crazy journey began. I was tossing and turning in bed one night, not able to fall asleep because my brain would not stop thinking. It was the kind of thinking that is so fast and unorganized that you're not even sure what you're thinking about. After a while I opened my laptop and searched google for "long term mission trips". I wasn't serious about it at the time, I just needed something to keep my mind busy enough until I could close my eyes. I came across The World Race after searching for maybe an hour. It stood out to me because the concept was different than any I'd seen before: 11 countries in 11 months. I ended up falling asleep reading a blog about a girl on her first month in Thailand (and probably dreamt about riding elephants through the jungle.) That was in October of 2012 and I have been stalking World Race blogs ever since. Now, I'm one of those bloggers that someone could be reading as they consider becoming a racer, how cool is that?!

Have you ever tried to imagine something but just couldn't? I have been doing this ever since finding out I would be going on the race in September. I'll try to picture being in Thailand or Malawi or Haiti and for whatever reason I just can't see it. It doesn't seem like it's a reality in my future. I have been spending a lot of time in google images lately. Here's one I thought you might appreciate as much as I do. If this picture is any representation of what Haiti will look like, I can't wait to go!

So I'm leaving for The World Race in approximately 34 weeks 1 day and 6 hours. That's 8 1/2 months! That's a lot of time for my imagination to run wild.

If you have been to any of the countries that I'm going to, please share your experiences with me as I prepare for my journey.

Come back next week for: What exactly is this thing she's talking about? And more google images.
