Dear Côte d’Ivoire,
Well you were by far the hostess month I’ve faced on the Race, but you were also one of my favorites. It’s crazy to say that now because when we were together, I honestly hated you. But the cool thing about time is that it allows you space to look back and think of all the amazing things that happened and how hugely God worked in us.
You taught me so much that I didn’t realize until later.
You taught me the value of seasons. Whether this was seasons of singleness through sermons or seasons with my first team. As my time ended with them, I’m grateful you were where we spent it.
You showed me the importance of a back pocket sermon and how the unlikeliest of pairings can give an abstinence speech to the congregation on Easter Sunday.
You allowed me the privilege of sharing the gospel with your people and seeing men after men coming to know the lord through a ministry I thought I could never do. When Josh told us at the end of Peru that I was going to be doing evangelism to road side truckers I thought he was joking, but to this day I think this was one of my favorite ministries. Even if it meant watching the Jesus film 5 times in as many different languages.
You showed me that an ocean is one of my favorite places to experience you and that your graces is as huge and abundant as the waves crashing over my feet.
You taught me that sometimes you need to dance. I got to dance my way through your entirety and man was that a blast. Go look at my blog post and watch the video I made.
You showed me the value of a good rainstorm on an African evening and how much I had missed the rain.
You brought out the best in me and I’m grateful for my time with you. You made the end of an era something to remember.
Mercie,
Katy May
