saw wa dee kaa friends and family!

Where is Chaiyphum? ^^ Right here.

It didn’t take long for me to fall in love with Thailand. One full week of living in a small village outside Chiayaphum and I’m completely head over heals. I’m not going to lie, leaving Phuket was a little disappointing. I had been working up in my head and praying for months to work in the red light district of Thailand, so driving 24 hours north of the beach towns into a ministry that World Race hasn’t worked with before was stretching for me.  But, I am here. And little did I know that I would have the privileged of working beside some of the most beautiful people God has created.

Our Thai Family and local neighbors <3

Talking a walk in the village at night. We always get run off the road by buffalo or cows.

We spend our days teaching English in the mornings and talking to the kids in the afternoon. I am now a teacher, actor, and musician.

I didn’t really know what good we were doing in the village. When Teaching came up, our team was a little intimidated. None of us knew how to teach, we didn’t really know we were going to be singing or preforming skits, but by the grace of God we were able to come up with a simple routine which seems to be working pretty well. It’s not hard to want to help improve these kids English speaking skills. We only spend about an hour with each class just going over the basic English- “hello, my name is _____. What is your name? Nice to meet you” These kids are incredibly smart, and my prayer is that with the ability to speak English, God will provide the opportunity to get better jobs. One of the major problems in this area of Thailand is lack of money and jobs. This is tearing tons of families apart. In order keep the families surviving, parents have to leave town to get better paying jobs.  Knowing English helps with getting jobs, but there is still a deeper issue of having enough jobs to go around.  Our contacts here have a WONDERFUL vision of opening a factory for the locals to work in and I can see that little by little, God is allowing that dream to come true.

We also had the opportunity to do a little bit of hospital ministry.  Ram (our contact here-love her!!) has a uncle who is extremely sick. The doctors aren’t exactly sure what is wrong with him, but they know it has something to do with his heart.  I knew going into the hospital was going to be a hard thing, since I did hospital ministry when I was in Peru, but it was still extremely hard walking into a place that was over crowded and full of people in need of help.  Praying for Ram’s uncle was one of the most difficult things that I have done yet. But it was also very rewarding.  I got to see the faith of Ram’s family and the love that they have for each other. Keep Ram’s uncle in your prayers!!! He’s still in pretty bad shape, but I know God is a healing God.

First week in our village=success! Can’t wait to see what next week holds.

Love from Thailand!!!
