Hi friends, I’m Katherine Wikner. Most of the time I got by Kat. I’m from Cedar Falls, Iowa and I’m a pretty average high schooler. A few things about me:
I have an older sister, Emily who is a sophmore at Northwestern College in Orange City, IA and a younger brother, Andrew who is a freshman in high school. My dad works as an engineer at John Deere and my mom works as a para-educator at a local elementary school.
When I return from the race, I will most likely be attending the University of Iowa. I have little to no clue as to what I am going to major in. During the race, I could always have a change of heart and figure out what I want to do OR just decide to not go to college at all. The Lord only knows at this point.
I’ve swam competitively since I was 8. Occasionally, I try other sports like track, cross country, and basketball. None of those have proven to exactly be my ~forte~. During my short lived cross country career in 8th grade I actually hid in the bushes with my best friend to avoid running the workout. And during my basketball days in 7th grade my best friend’s dad and my dad would sit in the back and laugh at us during the whole game because we were THAT BAD. Both my high school and my club swim teams have been a HUGE part of my life. The swim girls (and boys) are my second family, and have been my best friends since I was little.
I consider myself to be pretty laid back. I try not to take life too seriously which is both a strength and a weakness.
My dad first introduced me to mission work when I was a freshman. My sister, dad, and I went on to Haiti with our trip. I loved it and I am hoping that we will get to go back for spring break this year.
Random facts about me:
I love the mountains and the oceans. I get sunburnt SUPER easily. I’m a ginger but I don’t have a lot of freckles :(. I love coffee and coffee shops. I love chick flics like The Notebook but I also love The Spongebob Movie and Dumb and Dumber equally as much. I love a lot of different music, ranging from indie to country (yes I know that is a LARGE range). I also love Goodwill and a majority of my wardrobe is from Goodwill. Sometimes I get made fun of for laughing becuase I just find a lot of stuff funny (I’ve heard that laughing makes you live longer so jokes on all you people that make fun of me for laughing).
