Month 2 of the race is already over. Here is a quick overview of the ministries my team and I partnered with in Quito.
Inca Link: The wonderful people of Inca Link bravely took in my entire squad for all squad month. That meant nearly 60 of us were living under one roof (mostly, the guys were in their tents outside). We were incredibly blessed with beds to sleep in, showers, and Fabi and Mabe’s cooking. The heart behind this ministry is to reach the youth of Latin America. Q Squad with our amazing hosts Fabi, Mabe, and Gustavo at Casablanca!
As a team our ministry was a little scattered and we spent part of our time finishing projects around the house. We scraped paint, painted, and built a wall (well, Josh built the wall). This isn’t exactly my idea of a good time, but it gave us a chance to get to know our hosts and hear their stories and that was well worth it. I love these people and their hearts for Jesus. They are such servants and I am so blessed and encouraged by my time with them.
Josh and the big wall…
Cumbre Alta: This was our primary ministry this month and I absolutely loved it! It was all of my favorite things combined–soccer, athletic training, and Jesus. What more could I want? Nate, our host, is incredible. He is such an example of stepping out in faith and is being used by God in amazing ways. The heart behind this ministry is to use soccer as a means of spreading the Gospel and the Lord is blessing that. They have created a culture that doesn’t fit with soccer in country and it is beautiful to watch. One of my favorite things was being a part of their pre-practice prayers. As a club they obviously want to be successful, but their primary goal is to bring the love of Christ. Check them out on Facebook or their website to learn more about them and get involved.

The team needed an athletic trainer and I was able to fill that role. It gave me the opportunity to build relationships with some of the guys who were hurt.
I got to play soccer this month, too! Cumbre Alta has a youth program and were able to be a part of that. It’s the rainy season and most days only 1 or 2 of the kids would show up, but we played anyways. This gave us the chance to get to know Meji, the coach, and pour into him. It was so much fun and I forgot how much I miss playing.
This month definitely didn’t look like what we expected. But God moved and he stretched and grew us as individuals and as a team. I am so grateful for our time in Quito and to be a part of what God is doing there. Quito, you will forever have a piece of my heart!
Please keep these ministries in prayer and that the seeds that were planted will grow into lives seeking after Christ.
