It’s crazy to think that it was a week ago when I said my final goodbyes to all of you beautiful people back home. I was excited and a little nervous, and not 100% certain how I was supposed to fit my life into a backpack. In true Kat fashion, I was still packing late into the night before my flight early the next morning. But, I made it to Atlanta for launch.

Launch was 3 days of setting our gaze on Christ and all that He is going to do over the next 11 months. It was such an amazing time of setting our minds on things above, not on things of this earth, and shifting our focus to a kingdom perspective.

There is no easing into the World Race. Our first travel day started on Wednesday morning at 2:30 AM. We loaded into shuttles after one last hot shower and a quick nap in a real bed for our flight to Fort Lauderdale. It really is a sight to see 57 World Racers take over an airport. Once we landed we started our 12 hour layover (that ended up lasting closer to 15). What could have been a frustrating day, turned out to be pretty awesome.

My team and I were able to minister to our waitress who was in the airport last week when 5 people were killed. We were able to pray for her and all those affected by this tragedy.

After lunch we waited, played a little hacky sack, and waited a little more.

After a 26 hour travel day, naps on the airport floor, and a slightly squished bus ride, we made it to our ministry site here in Medellin. My team and I have the privilege of serving at Cuidad Refugio (City of Refuge), a homeless outreach, drug and alcohol rehabilitation center, home-school, and church.

The last few days we have been catching up on sleep and exploring the city we will be calling home for the next month. I am in love already!

Yesterday we heard the story of Pastor Douglas and how God brought him to Medellin and how God has blessed and grown this ministry. God is moving in this city and lives are changing. I am so excited to be a part of the work here.

Today is our first day of ministry and we will be teaching English, helping lead a VBS outside of the city, and holding youth group after church.

Please keep this ministry in prayer and stay tuned to see what God is doing here in Medellin!
