Daily devotions are one of my favorite things on the race. It is one of the few times where I get to slow down and spend some time resting in the presence of the Father. Some days I get to spend over an hour reading and studying, and some days it’s only 10 minutes reading a quick devotion on my phone. This past month, I have felt really uninspired and distant from the Lord when it comes to reading His word. It was discouraging and I couldn’t figure out why. A teammate recommended downloading the “She Reads Truth” app and trying one of their devotions to change things up. I figured I had nothing to lose and as I scrolled through the different options, a two week study on the Beatitudes caught my eye. I am only on day 6 and I have been so blessed, encouraged, and challenged by it. It was exactly what I needed during this season of the race.
Today was “Grace Day.” A day to catch up on reading, pray, and just rest in the presence of the Lord. There was no specific devotion, just a short scripture reading to meditate on. So I thought I would share what the Lord showed me today.
Here are 5 truths I needed to hear, and I pray they are encouraging to you also.
“Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and feed on His faithfulness. Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart.”
Psalm 37:3-4
1. Put your trust in the Father and once you do that you will have no reason to fear or worry about the future because His plan is far greater than anything you can imagine. He is our provider and He is good.
Jeremiah 29:11; Matthew 6:25-34
2.Do good. Love people well. You may not know what’s next or have the answers, but if your choices and actions glorify God and are an out pouring of love for Him and others, you are doing okay.
Colossians 3:17; Philippians 4:8
3. Rest in the Father. Resting well means you are trusting well. Allow His faithfulness and goodness to fall on you. Bask in His goodness and blessings.
Matthew 11:28; Psalm 119:68; John 10:10; Hebrews 4:3
4. Seek the Lord with everything you have. When you do, you will find Him. Allow Him to transform you and chase after the things of Him. He has freed you from the bondage of sin. He has defeated your flesh. Ask Him to align your heart with His. Ask Him to change your desires from the things of this world that will leave you in chains, empty and broken, to the things of Him. Only then will you be satisfied. Only then will you find rest. Only then will you find true joy and contentment that only comes from the Father.
Jeremiah 29:12-13; Hebrews 12:1; Philippians 4:4-7, 12-13
5. He knows the desires of our hearts because He knows us better than we know ourselves. He is also faithful to keep His promises. Therefore, if He says He will grant us the desires of our hearts, He means it. His timing is also perfect. So instead of doubting whether or not He hears you asking, pray for patience to wait on His timing.
Psalm 27:14; Lamentations 3:25-26
Thanks for taking the time to keep up with this crazy journey the Lord has me on. I love you all and I pray you have an amazing weekend and that the Lord will reveal Himself to you in new and tangible ways!
