Today at launch we had an in depth training on the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
The teaching we recieved was like a firehose of information at once, so here is a blog post about it. I am writing this partly for teaching others, but also because I am processing the info too! This information is fascinating to me so I thought it would be cool to share.
The 9 gifts are all different gifts of the same Holy Spirit.
3 show us the mindof God: Wisdom, knowledge, discernment of spirits
3 show us the speechof God: speaking tongues, interpretation of tongues, prophesy
3 show us the actsof God: Faith, healing, miracles
Major points I have recieved regarding the gifts (in no particular order):
- The gifts are still present today. There is no scripture saying that God took back the gifts or that they died after the 12 apostles started the early churches.
- The Holy Spirit blesses us with gifts to edify (build up) the church. (1 Corinthians 14:12)
- The gifts should only be used out of love. We are nothing and gifts benefit no one are if they are not being used out of love. (1 Corinthians 13)
- We have recieved the power from the Holy Spirit. Another interesting note, it is prophesied in the last days that people will claim godliness but deny the power. (Acts 1:8; 2 Timothy 3:5)
- Do not compare gifts. Other people having gifts should not threaten your gifts. We are all different parts of the same body of Christ working together. All of the gifts work in unity. Desiring more gifts is okay, but I don’t want to compare how God uses me to how he uses someone else. (1 Corinthians)
- We do not “earn” gifts. They are given by the Holy Spirit as He pleases. (Romans 12:6-8)
Everyone has at least 1 gift-faith. (Romans 12:3)
A thought to end on…
Some may say, “well what if nothing happens?”
But, what if something does!
