I’m sure that we have all heard, or sang, the children’s song This Little Light of Mine at some point in our lives. If you have never heard it, the song goes something like this:
This little light of mine,
I’m gonna let it shine
This little light of mine,
I’m gonna let it shine
This little light of mine,
I’m gonna let it shine
Let it shine,
Let it shine,
Let it shine.
Hide it under a bushel? No!
I’m gonna let it shine
Hide it under a bushel? No!
I’m gonna let it shine
Hide it under a bushel? No!
I’m gonna let it shine
Let it shine,
Let it shine,
Let it shine.
Don’t let Satan blow it out,
I’m gonna let it shine
Don’t let Satan blow it out,
I’m gonna let it shine
Don’t let Satan blow it out,
I’m gonna let it shine
Let it shine,
Let it shine,
Let it shine.
When singing this song, we claim to let our light shine, to not hide it, nor allow it to be blown out. As children, we passionately held up our light (our index finger), and exuberantly demonstrated exactly how we would let our light shine (moving our index finger around in a circle).
Though this may seem like a simple and childish exhibit, it is exactly what God has called us to do.
Matthew 5:16 says “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.“
We, as the children of God, are called to let our light shine, that we may draw people to Christ. My prayer is that I will let my light shine continually, in hopes that people may see Christ through me. I consider it a privilege that God has called me to take His light into to the darkness of this world. So, “I’m gonna let it shine, let it shine, let it shine, let it shine!”
