In Cambodia we got an awesome opportunity to take some of the kids from the orphanage to Phnom Phen. There we took them to the Killing fields, National Museum, and Shaboo Shaboo for lunch! Below are pictures from the day!
Thank you to everyone who helped us raise the money to be able to take the kids, it was an amazing experience for them.
The Killing Fields:
In the 1970’s the Khmer Rouge took control over Cambodia with the goal of turning the country into a communist utopia. It was devastating for the country and it is estimated between 1.7- 2 million people died during the genocide (approx. 1/4 of the country’s population). We took the kids to the Killing Fields, a memorial to the many camps people were taken to die. It was an intense but educational experience.
Pictured above: some of the boys listening to the audio tour as they walked through the fields.
Shaboo Shaboo:
For lunch we went to Shaboo Shaboo, which is best described as Cambodian shady maple, an all you can eat soup place (where stuff to put in your soup comes around on conveyer belts)

National Museum:
Our final stop of the day was the national museum, which had lots of artifacts and other things from their history on display.
