I had the privilege of reading a new poem this morning at church. I actually just wrote this a couple days ago, and wanted to share it with y’all too. There are some things in life that you think you’ve just gotten over. You’ve been there, done that, and you’ve healed. Well, sometimes shame and lies spring up in the most unexpected of times, and you’re forced to process all. over. again. As if you hadn’t spent so much time trying to get over the same dang thing in the past. But even though it kinda sorta sucks to sift through the grit again and again, grace is always there. Always. Because our Creator doesn’t ever give up on us. And I think that’s pretty cool. So, here it is 🙂

an iniquity

far too deep

for one to heal,

or even fill,

alone.

striving to out-do

everyone around her.

performance measuring

success.

thinking anything less

than perfection,

is failure,

is death.

the dialogue begins:

don’t give them any foothold

to criticize

or even offer help.

strong people don’t need help.

lies masquerading

as a crown of truth.

perfection settles like a weight

on your back.

you groan.

heaven groans.

and you believe that Jesus

just. can’t. do. it.

your iniquity is yours

to earn your way

out of.

your battle to fight.

how can I prove

that I’m worth it?

.

.

the gentle whisper comes:

daughter.

.

.

a life lived in

the deep, the messy.

power perfected

by weakness.

iniquities forgiven, healed.

replaced with

only

love.

it’s not yours to earn.

He already took care of it,

takes care of you.
