When I made the commitment to stay in Guatemala through the end of the year, I had no idea what I was saying yes to. I knew without a doubt that I was supposed to be here, but I didn’t know what the Lord was going to do with my extra months here. He continued to confirm to me that this was where He had me in providing the funds for me to stay at literally the last minute, and that was when I got the inkling that He had something pretty big in store.
Team Guate after defeating the Gap Year team in volleyball
Earlier this month, we welcomed a World Race: Gap Year team to live with us for three months. I’d known for quite some time that they were going to be coming, but I never anticipated the role that I’d be playing in their time here. Things were a little bit crazy here leading up to their arrival with some staffing changes, and just after the arrival of the team, I found out that I would be the main point of contact for the team during their time with us.
Me, a World Race contact.
Thats a job title I never thought I’d have!
Kacie and me with some of the Gap Year girls
We’ve had the team with us for nearly three weeks now, and I can’t even begin to describe what an incredible time its been. We have a team of five girls and two guys, all of them between 18 and 19 years old. We’ve been doing a ton of teachings with this team, and the way they have chosen to just dive into it all is pretty amazing. They are growing in such crazy ways, and we as a base have gotten to see that day by day. Just this morning, we asked one of the girls to lead us in worship. At first, she was really hesitant and nervous, but we prayed with her beforehand. She did an outstanding job and it was such a powerful time with the Lord!
Ministry with the team this week: moving massive amounts of dirt and rocks
Its honestly incredibly surreal to see the Race from this side of things. I never would have believed that this would be where the Lord would lead me, but it is. I’ve had such a killer time getting to disciple and do life with this team, and I’m so excited for what the Lord has in store for our next two months!
I am still seeking both monthly and one-time supporters to stay in Guatemala! I’m specifically looking to begin building a monthly support base to prepare for the coming year. If you are interested in joining in, feel free to contact me, or check out the directions on my home page!
