Ministry this month is so much different than last month in such great ways! Last month we were working with an organization that partners with many different ministries in Quito, Ecuador, and my team was sent to a site that was not a Christian organization. While it was so awesome and the Lord blessed us being there so much, it was draining. I frequently had to remind myself that we were there to shine the light and do a heart check.
This month we are working with a couple who are long term missionaries in Trujillo, Peru. Wendy is an American and Auden was born in Mexico, but went to school and lived in Oklahoma (Hurray!) for awhile when he was learning English. They are so on fire for the Lord and spreading his word in the area they live in. It’s truly a blessing to work alongside them and see how the lord has blessed them following his call.
This month, our days are really long, but so rewarding! I’m absolutely loving it! This past week we would do VBS in the morning from about 9-Noon. I was even able to pull out my youth choir knowledge of Jesus Loves Me en Español! These kids have already completely stolen my heart!
In the afternoons we have two English classes. One is for most of our kids from VBS come to our English class. They are so thirsty for the English language, it’s really inspired me to a lot of effort into learning more Spanish. As much as they like learning English, the niños favorite part of the day is when we bring out the soccer ball, volleyball and Frisbees.
My personal favorite (not really) part of the day is in between English classes! Around the same time everyday our ear perk up when we hear a man yell, “Churrrro, Churrrro!!” and all 12 of us at our site make a mad dash for the delectable Peruvian Churros! These have easily become our craving for the month, and rightfully so!
After our sugar comas wear off from the umpteen churros we indulge on, we usually round out our days with another English class with older students and adults.
This month is easily turning into one of my favorite (even though I’m only two months in… lol)
Through so much of this month and even last I’ve learned to make the best of everything! My Spanish isn’t great, but use what I know! I’m not good at sports, but that doesn’t mean I can’t love on these kids by playing with them! The Lord uses us even when we think he can’t and that is the biggest lesson I’ve learned so far. I have learned to set myself aside and let the Lord use me in ways I don’t necessarily understand!
Jesus is cool y’all! This month has been reminder after reminder of that!
Also I am $2325 away from my April 1st goal of $11,000. Please help me stay on this Race that the Lord has called me on. Every little bit counts!
Peace and Blessings,
Katie K.
