A bus full of 21-35 year olds leave Atlanta International Airport headed for Gainesville, GA on a repurposed school bus on a Saturday in October. Little did they know they would leave a week later completely different people.
Training Camp for the World Race is unlike anything I have ever experienced. There are lectures on walking a solid Christian life, mock market places, and everything in between.
This week changed my life forever. I gained friends that will last a lifetime, grew my relationship with Christ, and learned what it meant to truly disconnect and live life in the moment.
In true World Race fashion, I give 11 things* I learned at training camp:
- The Lord has so much in store for my life, and I shouldn’t let my human doubt get in the way of that.
- I don’t need as much as I think I need. This goes for food, clothes, and just about everything else, except Jesus.
- I have a pride issue, and I’m thankful the Lord is breaking me of that.
- The Lord will truly wreck your life and worldview if you let him.
- Everyone worships differently and that’s okay.
- Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors are awesome, why am I just discovering them?
- Living in real community is hard, but so rewarding.
- Curry and my tummy are not friends, which means a month in India will prove to be interesting.
- Screen fasts are my new favorite things to do.
- While I really enjoy being around people, sometimes I need alone time and airports are a great place to have that.
- I can go 6 days without showering and only changing clothes once.
Training camp was as amazing as it was overwhelming, and I already miss it.
*I learned more, obvi! Lol
