Here on the race, we have the amazing opportunity to share messages with the people we meet. And we get to tell them a little more about Jesus. This is a short sermon I wrote in India that I got to share with the church. Please enjoy.
Who here likes rules? Or guidelines? Not really anybody right? At least I don’t. I don’t really like having to be placed under some kind of leadership that has to have protection over me. But at the same time, we have to keep in our mind that it’s probably for the best. And that we won’t ever really get what we want. We won’t ever really agree with the leadership that we are under. For an example, the rules that they have at school. We have to abide by them for us to not only respect what they have asked but for us to not get in trouble also. Or with the government that we have, we might not always agree with the person that has that power and leadership over us, but there isn’t much that we can do but respect and abide by their rule and guidelines that they have set for us. God does the same thing with us. He has set rules and guidelines for us. He has asked us to do things in this life time that we have on earth but He has also asked us not to do things, and if we do them it’s considered a sin. So tonight I’m going to talk about a commandment that means a lot to me and speaks a lot of truth from it. Which comes from Matthew 7:1-6. Sometimes we might have a problem in our own life but we don’t see it right away, so we start to blame it on someone else. That’s what Jesus is talking about with the speck in your own eye. When we see that someone is doing something wrong in life and we notice it, we start to judge them for it because they’re doing wrong. But what we don’t see is that we have done the same thing. And sometimes when we see that speck in their eye, we do have a speck in our eye happening right now. It also says in Matthew 7:12, if we did this we would naturally obey all the laws that talk about our realtionship with others. We should treat people like they should be treated. Because switching that around, is having people treat you like you would want to be treated. You wouldn’t want people to pull your hair because that doesn’t fell good. But then if you pull someone’s hair that means that they have the right to pull yours? No, that’s not true. The Bible tells us in sistuations like that, we should turn the other cheek. It’s hard to physically turn the other check when you’re not getting treated the best. But that’s what Jesus has called us to do and we have to obey by His laws. When He calls us to be leaders and to be disciplines of Christ, we can’t not live by His rules because that’s not discipleship at all. So let’s be people that follow the rules that Jesus had laid out for us. Let’s treat people like they should be treated. By being nice, showing love and respect. Because in return that’s what you want, don’t you? But you also have to keep in mind that you’re not doing it out of what you want coming back at you, but out of the kindness of your heart. You’re doing it because you truly do love them and care for them. It’s hard to love people that you don’t like, but that goes into another command that Jesus has laid before us. To love your neighbor as yourself. You’re not always going to agree and love all the people in the world but Jesus calls us to show them respect and love just as He has done for us. Jesus continues to forgive us for our sins, so we should continue to love people when they sin. We need to be more like Jesus. So let’s start fresh today and start to show love and respect to the people around us. If you haven’t been doing that, you can also ask for forgiveness from the people you may have hurt, and also to Jesus for not following His rules and guidelines that He has set before us. So church let’s come together and start new. Start all over and give our problems to Jesus, for He cares for us and loves us so deeply. …
