I apologize that I haven’t posted a blog in a while, but I just wanted to give you all a little update! We have been in Guatemala for about a month and a half, and I love it. I am experiencing true growth, change, and new levels of intimacy with Jesus here. We are staying at an adventures base and living in community with our whole squad. I have learned a lot about what genuine community looks like here, and it’s a beautiful blessing to life alongside such passionate humans.
My team and I have been working with a home for children with special needs called Los Gozosos. We have fallen in love with the place and the people there. Our average day looks a little like this-
At 10:00 AM we arrive and go greet all of the workers and kids with a kiss on the cheek (that’s the culture here).
Then we go straight to work. We wash the laundry of all 24 kids by hand. There is a sink that we scrub the clothing in with hand soap. If we’re not washing the clothing then we are hanging it up on the roof of the building and taking the dry clothing down. Then we move on with folding the clothing and putting it into piles labeled with the names of the children. When you find a matching name you roll it up and go put it in the kid’s dresser. Laundry is something that has to be done on a daily basis to ensure the kids well being. So this is what our ministry will look like for the next month and a half. Taking the weight off of other’s shoulders and putting it on ours just like Jesus does for us!
There are a lots of crazy amazing things here, and it’s often hard to put them into words, because I truly believe they can’t effectively describe all that the Lord is doing here. He is so good.
