Alarm rings at 6 am. Rub the sleep out of my eyes, and get prepared for our morning walk. 6:30 am we walk .5 miles to a small river nearby. We sit and enjoy God’s beauty, some do their quiet time there, I like to be comfy in my God time, so I walk back, get in my sleeping bag, and read my daily bible chapters. I’m doing a 9 month plan to read the whole bible! Currently reading a few Psalms and finishing Hebrews (an amazing book might I add). We have quiet time from 7-8am and then breakfast is served! Usually porridge or oatmeal (with so much sugar), and we get ready to leave for ministry at 9 am! We walk a little under 2 miles to the village we are ministering to this whole month. We have two awesome leaders/translators named “B” and Apple. They take us to whatever house they think we need to go to or go back to, and we ask if they need help with any chores or in need of prayer. We always like to leave scripture to help if they’re going through anything hard. They also ask us to sing songs occasionally! We’ll help them with chores such as laundry, dishes, making & planting gardens, sweeping & mopping, weeding, etc. A plus is they usually have awesome animals like pigs, sheep, dogs (and PUPPIES), cats (and KITTENS, oh yeah, I no longer hate cats anymore!!), donkeys, horses, and chickens.

One reason I love our ministry this month is to see a change in one community. We got to go back to the same village every day to build relationships with each and every person. I also love being able to serve people physically, so I feel like God is really using me this month. By 12:30 pm, we head home for some lunch, usually PB & J or an egg sandwich! At 2-4pm, we do manual labor for our base. Sometimes we go shovel dirt into bags to put in their yard, take some vegetables from their garden to prepare for dinner, or recently we’ve been making a wall of dirt that will redirect water to a canal to carry the water to their garden instead. After this, we are dead to the world!!! So we just hang. Literally. We’ve hung up our hammocks. Also we hang with the hosts’ 2 songs named Jaime and Jon. They’re truly like the brothers I’ve never had. 14 & 15, they love to play nerts, and we got to show them The Parent Trap!! At about 6 pm, dinner is ready. We had a bunch of different meals since we’ve been here, but a lot of them have maize, sauce, & veggies. Occasionally, we get macaroni pie, which is truly life changing, lemme tell ya. Oh, and how could I forget, Mama Faith!!! She’s our cook for every meal and she’s a rockstar!! Around 7 pm we do team time which, depending on the day, is worship, journey markers (a discussion about a topic given by AiM), blogging, feedback, and free day friday! I love team time because they always end with so much laughter and me loving my team even more, which I didn’t even know was possible!! We end up going to bed around 9pm and it starts again! Our rest day is on Fridays and adventure day is on Saturdays, then church on Sundays! Usually on one of the off days, we hang out at the Malealea Lodge. It’s got that wifi!!!! And milkshakes!!! And snacks!!!! So amazing. Then last adventure day, the 14th of October, we went horseback riding through the mountains to a waterfall! It was a once in a lifetime experience. Very treacherous, so treacherous that my teamie, Abi Pena, front flipped off her horse. She good thought because she landed in a nice bush, a little traumatized, but tbh I don’t think I’ll do a 6 hour horse ride ever again. Then on Sunday we have an awesome service from 11am – 2 pm (don’t worry, we can go get snacks in the middle), but afterwards it’s awesome because they’re able to feed everyone there some lunch. That’s basically how my weeks go. I can’t imagine leaving this place. It’s truly an incredible, beautiful country. I’m so thankful I’m able to serve here for the time I can. #Blessed.
