Waqayoo si ha ebbiysuu! (God bless you!)

Sorry, I haven’t been able to update y’all this month. We have not had access to the outside world all month. It has been pretty refreshing being disconnected from everything but I’m pretty stoked to see what you all have been up to this month.

Last summer, I went to Swaziland and South Africa for a few weeks. I knew I would always end up back in Africa, I just had no idea that it would be on the World Race! God is so good and His timing is a wonderful thing! As soon as we stepped off of the plane in Ethiopia, we were welcomed by a beautiful sunset!

Our ministry site for this month is Hopethiopia. Most of our squad is together and we are staying on a big compound with several houses. We get the privilege of staying in one house with all 40ish of us. Bunk beds, hot showers, a washing machine, a kitchen and couches! I forgot how much I love couches-such a blessing!

Most of the houses occupy several precious children that we get to love on everyday. Every morning my team and I head over to one of the houses to spend time with several of the kids in the morning. We play kickball, sing songs, read bible stories, draw pictures, play games and complete 5,673 puzzles.

In the afternoon, a few of us spend time loving on the amazing house moms that live in the houses with the children. They love us so well and are always around to help us with anything we need. I love the time we get to sit and spend time getting to know and love these women better. We just sit and talk about so many different things. We learn new phrases and songs in their language and talk about our families. We share our stories and talk about what we are going to make for dinner. We have so much fun hanging out with them-they love to laugh!

This month is the first month on the race that we have had to cook for ourselves as a team. We all went to the grocery store (which is 2 hours away) and bought enough groceries for 15 days. Talk about meal planning! Our team has been crushin’ it by making some amazing meals.  Also, I’ve realized that I am not as an amazing of a cook as I thought I was… Haha It’s been fun helping out Kylie and India (who are both fabulous cooks) in the kitchen and learning along with them.

Ethiopia is so peaceful and quiet. Such a change from spending 5 months in the busyness of Asia. I am really enjoying my month and the Lord is teaching me so much about His character.
