This week was all about working with Women and Children’s ministry. We went into the slums to play with the children of the streets. It. Was. Crazy. Kids were everywhere! It was a school holiday so there were way more kids than usual. Cramming 30+ kids and 10+ adults into a small room is a feat in itself. We struggled through a skit of the parable of the lost sheep. The kids were too excited and rowdy to focus. We did have success with the Hokey Pokey though!! Even though it was chaotic, we had a good time playing and hugging on the children. They brought lots of laughs.
We also got to visit a cabin restaurant. Men come into the restaurant to order food but also to order ‘services’ from the waitress working at the time. I was pretty anxious walking into the restaurant because I had no idea what to expect. We were shoved into a small cubicle with a table and a bench. We ordered Mountain Dew and prayed that the girl waitressing would want to come talk to us. A few minutes in she comes over to our little cubicle and we start asking questions and talking about her life!! This woman is 22 years old and has an adorable 18 month old. I got to spend some time playing with this little guy and his laugh is just infectious! She says she has a husband who is living abroad in Cyprus. He comes back a few times a year for a week or two for business and then leaves again. We asked about her hopes and dreams for the future and she told us that her dream was to be a teacher. She was so friendly and was so excited when we told her we wanted to hang out with her again!
We have plans to meet her again on Monday to play at the park with her and her son. Please pray for this sweet woman who longs for genuine friendship and needs Jesus in her life!
