My team has arrived in Bogota, Colombia! It has been a very intense first couple of days.

Here are 24 things that my team and I learned in the first 24 hours of the World Race:

1. No plans are the best plans. (God’s plans are better than our plans)

2. We are constantly perplexed but never discouraged. (2 Corinthians 4:8 has become our theme verse)

3. The toilets in the Colombian airport are surprisingly clean (said Courtney who got up close and personal with them while puking).

4. Bogota is freaking COLD.

5. Language barriers can be broken by games, dancing & working out.

6. Free bathrooms are too good to be true. If you don’t pay you can get locked inside (ask Sara about getting locked in the bus station bathroom)

7. Avocados can be the size of a small child.

8. I am terrible at math. (I am also the treasurer of my team) L.O.L.

9. You are NOT allowed to sit on the floor(or anywhere really) at the Bogota bus station.

10. Using the bathroom on a bus requires quads of steel.

11. “I’ll be back in 30 minutes”…..7 years later.

12. Talking after the team has put in their retainers at night requires a translator.

13. How much Lucy and Ricardo (our hosts) love the kids here at Formavida.

14. Embarazada DOES NOT mean embarrassed (it means pregnant).

15. Five girls and ten backpacks can fit into one very small taxi.

16. Albino cockroaches do exist.

17. The recipe for a “hot” shower: shower in 10 seconds.

18. Bus rides through the Andes mountains are terrifying and beautiful!

19. Laughing keeps you from crying.

20. How to create an obstacle course for kids with very limited materials.

21. How to sweep and mop and sweep and mop…

22. How to host a weekend slumber party with 40 kids.

23. What it feels like to have a bunk bed collapse underneath you.

24. How blessed we are to get to do this for the next 11 months!
