Here are some of the things that I will always remember from Kenya:

  • The breathtaking view of the Great Rift Vally
  • Seeing so many zebras just hanging out on the side of the road
  • All the fresh, delicious fruit – pawpaw, bananas, oranges, pineapple, mango!, passion fruit, and melon.  And avocado, which is served as fruit here.
  • The children at Bliss school – and how they thought my tattoo was of a coocoo (chicken) and pointed and laughed at it daily
  • The porridge we gulped down every day at the school
  • Teaching the children songs, phrases, and dances
  • Trying sugar cane for the first time and getting the worst sugar high then crash EVER
  • Spending Thanksgiving here
  • Having our individual pictures taken and put on posters and flyers – and having people recognize us from them in public.
  • Guava Cafe and the delicious smoothies and coffee
  • The amazing generosity of our host family
  • Speaking at a crusade and then at several other churches
  • Braving door-to-door evangelism
  • Hiking to the 2nd largest crater in the world on Kenya's Independence Day
  • Getting addicted to Beauty Queen – a Philippino soap opera
  • Dancing with a pastor's wife in church
  • Being told that I look so smart every day and realizing that it means that I look good, not intelligent
  • Finding out that we confused people when we asked if there was a nearby bathroom.  They thought we wanted a place to shower in the middle of the day, in the middle of town
  • Being given the African name "Jeri" which means one who loves to travel from place to place
  • A pastor explaining that because faith is believing what is not seen, then it is not raining (even though it was raining)
  • Watching people get saved and seeing their lives changed
  • Having chai twice a day – yum!
  • Getting frustrated every night trying to figure out my mosquito net
  • Being showered with fun African gifts from the people we worked with here

Now on to month 6….RWANDA!
