This month, our team is focusing on finding and sharing about Unsung Heroes in Cambodia. This post is part of an 11-blog series about our efforts.

Today's post is written by Josh Mackey.

Coming in to Unsung Heroes, one thing that God really pressed on my heart was, “The numbers aren’t important.” While in my head I know that they aren’t, the world judges how successful things are by how many people attend. Unfortunately, so does the church.

Growing up in South Georgia, most area churches have a section in the bulletin for attendance. How many people were in Sunday School, A.M. worship, P.M. worship, Wednesday night activities. These numbers, again unfortunately, show how “well” a church is doing.

But, I still didn’t understand why God had given me that word. Until:

Kari made contact with the team that did UH the month before and they sent over their contact list. There were over sixty contacts on it. I got it then.

We were going into this ministry with not a lot. It’s still a very new program at AIM and we get the amazing opportunity to help shape this awesome program.

It was still very daunting though. Sixty people! Sixty different ministries!  How could we even compete with that? How could we show that we were successful enough compared to them? We’d be considered failures if we didn’t hit their numbers right?

That’s when God spoke to me again. “It’s not about the numbers.”

And it stuck that time. It didn’t matter if we only met one contact. If we didn’t meet any contacts if I am being completely honest. As long as we were in the will of God we would be successful. It was only through Him and by Him that would be able to meet anyone at all. So, I settled into that mindset. To let God lead us and let his will be done.

Our month is at a close. Today is our last day of ministry. And while we haven’t gotten sixty plus contacts, we has nearly two dozen. We have met some amazing people, people that are doing amazing things and asking for nothing in return. People I hope I get the chance to work with again.

So, I truly believe this month has been successful by His standards and that is all that matters.
