When I came on the Race they warned us. “don’t bring expectations”
Well I thought I brought reasonably few expectations. But my heart dropped when after being in Bangkok for a week unable to fly out, our Race itinerary is changing.
We’re going to LONDON for the month of December. (I *think* we’ll go to Africa after that, but I’m not sure)
I haven’t a clue what types of ministry we’ll get into or where we’ll be staying or how the heck we’ll stay under World Race budget ($10/day for food, lodging and transportation which equals about 6.7 pounds British sterling).
I do know that this lets down my expectations of serving the poorest of the poor throughout the world.
But I have to trust that God has something for us Racers to do in London. I can’t wait to see what it is, and I can’t wait to visit my old haunts–I studied abroad there in the spring of 2005. I’ll probably meet up with some old friends and laugh at the unexpected joys of seeing them. I’ll walk by my old door at #3 Gower Street and I’ll lead my squad around the walking tour of all the big city sights, which you can see in one afternoon if you’re ready to walk. I’ll sit in a little coffeeshop on the Thames, just like I used to, and watch it flowing by and ponder the last three years of my life, and remember that London is where my heart first tasted travel and got addicted. I’ll visit Hillsong London and hopefully meet up with some of my old small-group friends who may still be in the city!
I pray that whatever ministry God has planned for us, I’ll be able to look at it with fresh eyes and forget my expectations of serving the poorest of the poor.
Well friends I’ve got to go and pack. London’s calling!
