“You came to the right place,”
he said. “Here in Mexico, 95% of the country is Catholic. They know
religion. They say their prayers to Mary and the saints…but they don’t know
Jesus.”

Eleazar has been in Palenque for six and
a half years. He is the director (instructor, handyman, groundskeeper…and
more) of the Shekinah School of Ministry Training, where pastors in Central
America from all denominations of Christianity can come for a two-month Bible
training. Here at Shekinah, they are trained to take their spiritual leadership
to the next level, so when they go home to their villages and churches, they
are better equipped to raise up men and women of God.

When I spoke with Eleazar, I could see the
love in his eyes for his people, the people of Mexico. His heart is full of
God’s love for Latin Americans, and he has dedicated his time and labor to
serving these pastors through Shekinah. He has a big vision. He has a beautiful
vision. Now, as we World Racers get the opportunity to support him, come
alongside him and reach out to the people of Palenque (and possibly some of the
outlying villages), I pray the Lord places that same vision within our hearts.

Former World Racer Jimmy McCarty is with
us this week as we learn what life on the World Race is going to look like. He
shared this verse with us this morning, in preparation for going out to the
streets of Palenque:

“Paul then stood up in the meeting
of the Aeropagus and said: ‘Men of Athens! I see that in every way you are very
religious. For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of
worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: To An Unknown God. Now
what you worship as something unknown I am going to proclaim to you.'”

Monday night was our first in Palenque. We
have only just begun to learn about the culture of the area. As we go out to
learn more and begin serving some different ministry partners, I pray that just
as Paul spoke directly to the men of Athens through their own culture, God may
lead us in ways of doing the same.
