The past two weeks in Haiti have awakened my spirit in a fresh, invigorating way. My journey that started on the World Race has shown me that there’s a part of me that comes alive in the field that simply shuts down in my home country. I don’t know why that is, just that it is. Every day I feel so ALIVE! I’m living the way I’m meant to live: in community with other believers my age, serving the needy each day, seeking the Lord each moment. As a result, I’m falling more in love with Christ every day because I get to see the wonderful things God is doing here in Haiti.
There’s a spiritual awakening that started after the earthquake. When people have nothing but God, their passion and joy in Him is incredible to behold. When the Haitians dance in church, there’s nothing like it! Their praise is heard from blocks away. The light of Christ shines from their faces. And the Christians we work with have hearts to serve their communities. They love being the connecting pieces between us Americans (read: resources) and their communities (read: need). As we come alongside them to spiritually pour into them, and physically uplift them and their communities, we are beginning to see Haiti as God sees it: a nation that will be a city on a hill, a light shining bright for others to see the glory of the Lord as He brings fulfillment to His people in ways far beyond the fulfillment of physical need. As we share food and shelter resources with the people, we find all the more joy in sharing the spirit of God!
Whether I’m playing with kids for a few hours in an imprompty VBS (including English lessons), shooting footage of Americans and Haitians working together to remove rubble from a church member’s home, visiting an orphanage in need with a man who is bringing funds from America, or interviewing pastors and missionaries, I know that I am exactly where the Lord wants me because my mind, soul and body are so alive and filled with joy no matter my circumstances.
Aleluya, mesi Jezi!
