I don’t even know how to begin to explain the last week of my life, but it is almost midnight here in Zambia, and I need to try and update you all on this crazy adventure.
Traveling to my first ministry site took a lot more patience and time than I ever would have imagined. We started off with a flight to Detroit. Then we had an overnight flight to Amsterdam followed by an almost 8 hour flight to Kenya. In Kenya, I got to experience what it is like to have a 12 hour layover in an airport. Ever slept on the tile floor of an airport? I really wouldn’t recommed it, but I can say that it was an adventure. You can go to a sit down resturant at 2am. So that was super fun.
The next day we had a flight to Malawi and then stayed in a hostel for the night. Fun fact, my tent isn’t actually 100% waterproof. It likes to let in a bunch of rain which is going to be super fun because apparently we are in the rainy season of Africa. The sun will be out one minute, and then it is pouring the next. I actually kind of love it because it cools eveything off so much.
After the night in the hostel, we had a 2 hour “bus ride” to the border. I say “bus ride” because we were given 3 fifteen person buses that had to hold 46 peole and all our stuff. I think there were about 16 people shoved into 8 seats. It was one of our first real views of what transportation in Africa looks like. We made it to the border in the middle of the day, and I personally did not leave until after 6pm. It took that long to get everyone through and have transportation to our next hostel in Chipata, Zambia.
We got up at 3:45am the next morning and piled ourselves into even smaller vehicles to make it to the bus station. We then boarded charter buses to Lasaka, Zambia. It was an over 7 hour bus ride. With no bathrooms on the bus, and they only stop once. Talk about an adventure. Oh but the view. Driving through Zambia is one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. I got to witness God’s creation in a way that I never will be able to describe. It took my breath away over and over again.
Then, after 5 days of traveling, my team and I got dropped off on the side of the road where our ministry contact was waiting to take us on the adventure of a lifetime.
I can’t wait to be able to tell you about my first days in ministry. Africa has stolen my heart, and I do not think that I will ever get it back.
I love you all and am so thankful for your support. I am less than $1000 away from being fully funded. It blows my mind. Thank you all so much.
