Where the headlines of newspapers read, “Found a father for eternity: I now know the true love of a father, a friend, and everything in between”.
Where your feet become unrecognizable due to the amount of dirt that has managed to cover them.
Where you squat to use the bathroom instead of sitting comfortably.
Where electricity is quite unpredictable.
Where water runs for 2 days and is shut off for 4 days.
Where cockroaches swarm the bathroom corners and run rampant over the silverware, plates, countertops, and floors at night.
Where waking up to new piles of mouse poop in your bed is just another ordinary morning.
Where women and young girls prepare every meal and tend to the dishes after every person has been served.

Where weekends are not a moment for rest and sleeping in, but rather, waking up at 6am to exercise, tend to chores, and gather children for daily devotional.
Where music is always echoing from some distant location.
Where consistent “showers” include wiping your skin off with baby wipes.
Where tending the garden every morning is a mandatory chore.

Where sudsa is served at nearly every gosh darn meal.

Where children choose to stay after school hours to continue learning even though they have the option to play.

Where people live as a community- sharing what little they have with their brothers and sisters in Christ.
Where there is no television or Internet.
Where drinking water is stored in tall trash bins.
Where people climb trees no matter how old or young they are.

Where there is never an empty room.
Where sometimes food does not fit the budget and people are left with empty stomachs.
Where children listen attentively during sermons and volunteer to pray.
Where nights without electricity are spent cooking dinner outside over a fire.
Where night skies are filled with infinite twinkling stars and paths are lit by moonlight.
Where women encourage, challenge, and inspire me to be a stronger woman in Christ.

Where I have found myself seeking, calling, and depending on God in new ways.
Where a piece of my heart will remain years after my days and nights here have come to an end.
