This month we are serving in Nsoko, Swaziland at an AIM (Adventures in Missions) ministry site called “The Anchor”. The people of Nsoko come here to receive an education, medical care, food, and spiritual support/counseling.

Nearly the first 2 weeks were spent clearing out weeds from a large field using shovels and hoes. Due to Africa entering their season of summer, it became almost impossible to begin our day later than 7am; It was easy to run the risk of tiring out and overheating too soon.

Our first day gardening was peaceful in the beginning, but because we started a bit later in the morning, by 11:30 we were exhausted and a little anxious about continually performing the same task over and over. My morning consisted of shoveling up the roots, squatting down to pull the weeds, throwing them into a pile, and repeating the process what seemed like a million times. Eric, one of our contacts here at the Anchor Centre, was able to come out to the field to encourage us and put things into perspective.

He explained that The Anchor ministry site was able to use their land to set up a drip irrigation system for a garden using one well for the entire community. The garden is big enough to rent out plots to 39 homesteads, which enables the locals to plant and harvest their own vegetables. Not only does this provide food for the community, but it also gives an opportunity for the locals to work and have a sense of pride in providing for their families. This project has been made possible due to funds from churches and individuals back in the states.

AIM also has a partnership with some of the farmers here in the area. The farmers have donated 3 hectares of land towards AIM. We also have the opportunity to help harvest the land in order to distribute the produce during our home visits this month.

We were able to finish our work in the field on Wednesday morning. Our last day out began at 6am, geared up in our raincoats and sweaters- we were trying to beat a bad storm that was coming in. The dirt was so sticky it seemed like I was walking in high heels through the field. Thankfully, we did not allow that to stop us!

As one project ends, another begins. Our next task, which began 2 days ago, is to dig trenches 80 inches deep in order to lay concrete and build a structure- a new church! Thankfully God has allowed us to do many different tasks here at the Anchor Center. This has really helped open my eyes to how vast and great God is. He has allowed us to serve Him in so many different ways. Let this encourage you at home, and ask Him to open up different areas for you to serve and know Him!

Thank you so much for following me and being apart of this journey with me.
