Guat’s going on?

Estoy en Antigua, Guatemala! Me encanta la ciudad.

Guatemala has been pretty fantastic and challenging so far! After a 65+ hour travel day, we arrived safe and sound (although exhausted) at our home. This month we had team changes and my team lost Logan L The good news is that she’s leading another team and we’re spending the month with them! 13 women in one house.

This month we aren’t split into our actual teams but the 13 of us have been divided into 3 teams for the ministry:

Team #1) Fundraising! Shortly I’ll be sharing a link if you would like to help build an apartment for a widow. This team is partnering with a coffee shop here in Antigua to raise funds for this house.

Team #2) English teachers! Somehow we always come back to this #worldracelife.   This team is, like it sounds, teaching English.   I’m not on this team and it sounds a little stressful but they still seem like they’re having fun.

Team #3) Teaching Values in Spanish! This one is me. I’m on a team with 3 other girls and we are teaching a values and principles class…in Spanish. Don’t I wish I had paid more attention in my conversation classes when I did my minor! All things considered it’s going pretty well. We have to think on our feet and I’m pretty sure our brains are burning more calories than normal. Monday and Tuesdays we’re going from 6:30 in the morning (guess who overslept today…) to 4. The rest of the week we have ½ days. We take an average of 4 busses per day.   We also snack a lot. During recess we buy tostadas with guacamole, chicken salad, cheese and salsa for 2Q (think 25 cents). Our other favorite snack is frozen bananas dipped in chocolate and rolled in peanuts for 3Q. Life, as far as snacking is concerned, is pretty good.

It’s only the 3rd day of ministry and I think I’ve been here for a decade. As crazy as this sounds, we only have 11 more days of ministry in Guatemala. PVT (Parent Vision Trip) is coming up and those who don’t have parents coming are going to El Salvador!! Super pumped for that. #13n11

All my love,

Katie
