It’s kind of interesting how days can hold such weight. Anniversaries, birthdays, holidays, etc. Each of them are numbers on a calendar while at the same time so much more than that. October 12 is one such day. Thanks to TImehop (an app that brings up social media posts from years past on that day), today I was reminded of some pretty interesting things.
5 years ago today I got my first college acceptance letter to the school I would later spend four years of my life at.
4 years ago today I was at the peak of a relationship that would soon crash and change the way I viewed the people around me in a very detrimental way.
2 years ago today I was facing some hard truths and tough consequences from a separate yet equally destructive relationship after its recent implosion.
1 year ago today October 2016 Routes were posted and I began the application process for the World Race. I had been stalking the World Race route launches so diligently that I caught the routes and started an application before I even got the email announcing that they had been posted.
Today I’m writing this blog from an international Christian school/bilingual church in San Pedro, Costa Rica. The sun is going down on my first week of ministry here and y’all, I am in love. I’m in love with the people, I’m in love with this country, but most importantly I am falling more and more in love with the Lord. Isn’t it cool how God can take one day and give it so many different meanings?
Each year on this day (except for 2013, apparently that was a boring year), God has given me some type of life changing moment. One year it was a change in education, two years were changes in my heart, and last year was a HUGE change in my life that got me to where I am today. Talk about a beautifully heavy day.
As I prepare for bed I can’t help but be thankful. God has done so much on this seemingly insignificant day year after year and every ounce of my body is singing God’s praises.
I know some of you are probably curious about my team’s ministry and how things are going since we got here last week. In short: things are great. I couldn’t be more blessed to be here and the school I’m working at is fantastic. Never fear, I’ll be posting again with more details later this week.
In the meantime, please be in prayer for my team as we adjust to living life in community and really dig in to the year that is ahead. I can’t wait to share with y’all about all of the things God is doing here in Costa Rica!
Love always & pura vida!
Katie
Support raising update: I am currently around $1,700 away from my next deadline on November 30th and $5,227 away from being fully funded. HOW GREAT IS GOD! Thank y’all so much for getting me this far! If you’re able, please consider donating to help me reach these next goals so I don’t have to come home early (how awkward would that be). K LOVE Y’ALL BYE!
