For a week now we’ve been living it up in Rukungiri, Uganda. I’m in shock and a certain level of denial that we only have TWO MONTHS LEFT on the World Race. I can remember the beginning where Africa seemed like it would never come and here we are, charging right on through. Weird weird weird.
I’m thankful, to say the least, at how the Lord has delivered us here. He’s taught me so much and allowed me to grow in a way that I never could have if I had not walked the exact path that I did.
Here in Rukungiri, the Lord has given our team a lot of opportunities to serve different groups of His children. Each day looks a little different, but so far it has been a lot of fun!
On Monday’s and Tuesday’s, we fellowship with teen mothers and their young children. During this time, we teach them how to make paper beads that will later be turned in to jewelry. It gives them an avenue through which they can make money to help their household while doing work that allows them to talk with other women who are in similar situations. Tuesday nights we also get the opportunity to fellowship with the boys’ team and some local Christians. We play volleyball, laugh a lot, and talk about Jesus.
Thursday’s and Friday’s have been a little different. Our host, Reverend Enoch, has developed a method that he calls “Farming God’s Way” that helps farmers utilize their resources and work in a way that honors God and His good gifts. We have been teaching the program to farmers in the area so that they can better survive droughts and hard times.
These are our friend Susan’s banana trees coupled with coffee plants. She also has cows, rabbits, pigs, goats, and dogs.
Finally, on Sunday’s we get to go in to the local boarding schools to have church with them. We sing songs, give testimonies, and preach the Word of the Lord. It’s been cool getting to meet high school students and hear about their struggles and their dreams.
God is doing a tangible work here through Reverend Enoch and his multiple ministries and partnerships. I’m excited to see what God has left planned for us in our time here before heading on to Kenya. I ask that you be in prayer for the young moms, struggling farmers, and teenagers that are being showered with the Gospel.
Buckle up, friends, there’s only 47 more days.
All the love from Uganda,
Katie Mere
