For the past month I have been living and working with orphans. No, not just orphans. Orphans with disabilities, serious health problems, and special needs. But you know what they are before any of that? Children. They laugh and cry and play games and forget to share and they feel excitement and disappointment and they give hugs and high fives and have the absolute best smiles ever.
This month I have been living and working with kids. Kids who gave been orphaned and abandoned, kids who were born maybe a little different, but kids just the same.
What they’ve been through is significant though, don’t get me wrong. Their stories don’t define them but they do affect them. These precious ones have been rejected by the most rejected people of society, called undesirable by the forgotten and despised. It’s heartbreaking to acknowledge as you’re looking into a pair of sweet brown eyes, but don’t miss that there is something beautiful tucked away in this story. The beautiful thing is that these kids, these rejected ones, they are the ones that God chooses. In fact they’re his first pick. 1 Corinthians 1:27 says that “God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong.” Jesus told his disciples that the first shall be last and the last shall be first. God is all about the rejects. Even Jesus himself was a reject- Acts 4:11 says “For Jesus is the one referred to in the Scriptures, where it says, ‘The stone that you builders rejected has now become the cornerstone.'”
He sees them, even when we don’t. He remembers them, even when we forget. The hairs on each child’s head are numbered, he cares for them, and he will provide for them. The kids I met this month have already been so richly blessed by God to have been pulled from the pit and delivered to this awesome place. But it is not free to live here and they need supporters. Would you prayerfully consider becoming a financial sponsor to one of these sweet kids?

Meet Kristy, who has only been a part of SCH for about a month. This precious little girl was one of the first SCH kids I met during our tour on the first day. She was lying in a crib, totally checked out. We were told that before coming here Kristy lived at an orphanage where she was seriously neglected. When I met her on that first day she was bone skinny and weak, even her head was misshapen from nothing but lying on her back for two years. Now, only a few weeks later, Kristy is healthy, curious, engaged, and happy.

Sweet Gabe! If you could meet this boy, I guarantee you’d fall in love with him. He was born with spina bifida and is paralyzed from the waste down, but that does not steal one ounce of his joy. He’s always smiling and loves guests. One of my favorite things from this month was Gabe’s soft spoken greetings “How are you? I am fine, thank you.” This angel is gentle, easy going, and carries such a presence of peace and contentment despite his challenges. What a gift to have gotten to know him!

And the ever lovely Sree Ramya. This 15 year old spoke the best English of any Indian I met. She lives on the top floor of Courage Home where my team was staying. I loved the mornings when I got to sit with her, have breakfast, and talk. She loves to hear teachings from the Word of God and even more so loves to worship. She shared with me about her condition, which affects her growth, eye sight, organs, and nerves. She is not an orphan, her parents are alive and love her very much, but they cannot get the treatment she needs to save her life here in India. So they relinquished their rights and the family is hoping and praying for an adoptive family from the US to come forward. In the meantime, Sree Ramya needs sponsorship to allow her to live here, receive high quality medical care, and attend classes outside of the home.

Sarah Covenant Homes has made the difference for these children, and countless more. Please pray for them- that they would be healed, develop close relationships with their heavenly Father, and that God would raise up sponsors to partner in this important work.
