One of the most important aspects of The World Race is our contacts. Our contacts are the ones who are already doing amazing things for Christ in their own communities. They are the ones we have the pleasure of partnering with in the city we’re assigned to. They’re the ones who share their lives and ministry with us for a month, knowing that we will be leaving soon.
I know my contacts in India, Morong and Sendme as well as Pastor Daniel and Mercy, were an inspiration to get to know. And I learned so much from Brain and his staff in Nepal. We came here to serve and minister to people but in return we’ve found ourselves served and ministered to beyond what we could have possibly dreamed.
The thing is, these wonderful people we partner with don’t usually just come to us. We have to seek them out. Every month we’re always casually scanning for potential contacts to hold more teams for future World Race routes. Additionally, every team has at least one month where we actively seek out contacts as our ministry for the month. This is referred to as Unsung Heros.
Thailand is team Beautifully Broken’s Unsung Hero Month. We have been placed in the heart of Bangkok to find Christ centered churches, organizations, businesses, etc. It’s like a month long treasure hunt. There’s a lot less structure than our usual ministry as we will be going with the flow of whatever God leads us to.
This week we had a few days of training with the other team who will also be doing Unsung Heroes (although tomorrow they’ll be leaving for their city). We’ve been working out the logistics (and by “we” I mean mainly Beth and Ash- they’re super) along with setting goals and such. Tomorrow is our first full day in the field.
I was also elected UH Team Leader so while Ash is still the overall team leader, I will be the point person responsible for UH things. This is really exciting as last month God addressed a lot in terms of my self-worth and how my giftings can work in a better capacity. I believe this month will involve a lot of growing into the leader God sees me becoming. I’m a little nervous because I’ve never led this type of group before but God made it incredibly apparent He wanted it to be me so I’ll do just fine. J
Our objectives aren’t as easy to measure and there will be times where we will fail. However, as we make room for the mess, we believe that God will led us to those who will become a part of the World Race network. There’s a lot of uncertainty and even risk as we learn to trust God and each other more. There’s also the incredible guarantee of fulfillment as we grow in relationships to one another and the people of Bangkok.
So please let me know if any of you have connections in the Bangkok area. Today we tried out a church where we may have found some, which is awesome! However, we aren’t spending more than 3 days with any one ministry since this month is all about finding new contacts. ~The more the merrier.
