It is good to have friends. In 1 John we hear about how “if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.”  I think it’s interesting how John doesn’t say here that if we walk in the light, we have fellowship with God rather than one another. I think part of that is that we are designed to be in fellowship with other believers in order to more fully bring glory to God.

If we worship God on our own, that’s a great thing. But it’s so much more powerful when there’s a room full of worshiping Christians than just one sitting in a corner. Jesus once said, “Where two or more of you are together, there I am in the midst of you” (that might be a paraphrase). In the same way, if we are walking in the light, we should be joining with fellow believers in order to increase that light all the more.

When I am around my core Christian friends (like tonight :), I get energized much easier than if I read the bible all day long (not that I don’t love my bible). It’s like God shoots an electric current through the group and we all get zapped. We find a way to hang out an hour later than everyone planned to stay. Then we feel silly going home because we’re so much more awake and talkative than when we first got together.

The crazy thing is that after our gatherings I find myself talking about God to people I usually don’t bring Him up to. It just comes naturally after talking about Him all evening with my friends. I mean what is there that’s better to talk about? So light produces more light. We feed off of each other just as we feed of off God’s presence and in the same manner we share our spiritual “food” with others once we had been “fed.” Pretty cool stuff huh?

So tonight feels about as great as last night sucked. And that’s the way of things. Life is full of surprises but God is ever faithful and provides in every way we need because He is good. In the end He always directs us back to Him because He is the best option to go to. However he needs to do that, he does is. And I sure love it when his method is through my loving, accepting church family.

You guys are the best and I’m so glad to partner with you in this grand endeavor! In the next few weeks we’ll all be headed our separate ways physically, but at the heart we will still be united by the One who matters most. Good luck and best wishes to you all and the path God has set before you. I will be praying for you from the other side of the planet. Thanks for agreeing not to forget me. 😉

Love yas (even if you aren’t the peps I was referencing in the previous paragraph)
