I don’t even know how to start this blog because there is just too much to say. My head is full of so many stories fighting to be told.
My team, as well as two other K-Squad teams, are in Ghana living in the city of Sunyani. We are working with Elim City Church, which was started 3 years ago by Pastor Gospel. This church is just incredible, they have their heart set on reaching as many people as they can and know that through the Lord all things are possible. (Philippians 4:13)
Instead of attempting to choose one story to tell, I will just share what a day in the life looks like:
7:30- This is the time my alarm normally starts going off, but I’ll sleep through it until my teammate Liz or Miranda wakes me up. The three of us are sharing one bed this month so to say we are getting close would be an understatement.
8:00- I normally get some bible time in here because well its morning so if you know me you know that means I’m not going to talk to anyone else until I can get some coffee. So I’ll read my bible and drink my coffee until breakfast gets here. All our meals this month are being provided by different members of the church who have volunteered to feed us- its hard to even put into words how incredible these people are.
8:45- We get picked up from our hostel and cram into two buses from the church. Each bus has a giant picture of Pastor Gospel, so there’s some advertising as we drive around.
9:00- We get to the church and go into the smaller sanctuary for morning devotion. This happens every morning. ~ Can you imagine what it would be like in the states if everyday we got together for a morning devotion? If we really started each day off in community with the Lord? ~ The devotion consists of worship songs which some people from my squad are now leading, and then a sermon given by one of the many Pastors of the church. (There are many different Pastors at this church but the ones we are working closest with are Eben, Prince, and Charles).
10:00- We get back into the busses and head to evangelize. Every day we go somewhere different in the Sunyani area, sometimes villages, sometimes colleges, and sometimes markets. We drive to the various locations and then pair up into groups of 2 Americans and 1 Ghanan. I get paired with a guy named Zeus almost every day. He is incredible and evangelizing with him is teaching me so much. We joke around with each other and just have an over all great time. He is so good at talking to people about Jesus, making it an easy conversation rather than the awkward one that can come from evangelizing. He is bold in his faith and it is inspiring. We have been able to talk to so many people during evangelism. We’ve been able to pray over their sicknesses, families, businesses, and faiths. This time has been draining but also so rewarding, just being able to meet so many different people who all have such different stories to tell.
12:30- Around this time we normally get back in the busses to head to lunch at our hostel and have about an hour break.
2:30- We head back out to evangelize some more. We normally go to campuses in the afternoon and talk to students. There are 5 colleges in Sunyani and most of the students are from different cities, so they are lacking the community they grew up in. We get to meet them and talk to them about church and the Lord. This is always a fun time and consists of a lot of selfies being taken with us.
5:30- We head back to the church for our dinner and then a service. They have different services each night at 6 pm. We get to participate in all of these. My favorite is the youth service on Saturday nights. This service consist of a lot of dancing and singing. There is also some rapping and spoken word. The youth here really does a great job of celebrating each others gifts and encouraging them to be shared. At the youth service we get to see this in action and its beautiful. I’ve also connected with so many of the youth and enjoy seeing them so free and happy praising the Lord.
8:00- Back at home we have some team time to debrief the day and then get ready for bed.
So thats what a day in the life looks like this month. I’m loving it so much so its really hard to express in words. I’ve just really been finding my Joy in the Lord this month and He is just pouring out of me.
“Restore to me the Joy of your salvation,
and uphold me with a willing spirit” -Psalm 51:12
