SWAZILAND: Adventures in Missions Base ????
In month two, we were staying at the Adventures in Missions (AIM) team house in Manzini, Swaziland with two other teams. AIM has offices in the city of Manzini who run care points all across the country of Swaziland. At each care point, children are provided one meal a day and an education. I got the privilege of working at the Murray Camp Preschool care point where Christa, Becky and I got to assist two amazing preschooler teachers. There are 20 kids in each class and they are very well behaved and smart. Our hosts for the month were Xolani and Sandie, the sweetest couple ever who are making such an amazing impact in the country of Swaziland. My highlights from month two were getting attacked with hugs every day, the game night my team had when the power went out one night, and when our teams were invited to lead worship at International Tabernacle church on a Sunday morning.
1. Thandolwethu
This is Thandolwethu! He is 5 years old and one of the students at Murray Camp Preschool. He had some sick dance moves, incredible manners, and the biggest and brightest smile. Many tears were shed when I had to say goodbye to this little boy.
2. Gabby giving me a facial!
The night Gabby gave me a World Race style facial definitely brought me the R&R I needed! How can I not count this as one of my favorite memories?
3. Riding on the back of the truck to get some after church lunch
This was from the morning my team led worship! We had two options after church: get a ride back to the house or take the walk to get some chicken and then walk home! So naturally, in our church clothes, we jumped in the back of the truck of one of the church members and got dropped off to get some chicken!
4. The day Becky was lead teacher
Teacher Phindile, the 5 year old teacher, left Becky alone one time for 35 minutes so I came to her “rescue.” (Really I just followed her around with a camera while laughing really hard). After this hard and stressful work day, we made our way to the mall through the rain and treated ourselves to milkshakes.
5. Forgot to check the weather
Some of my favorite days in Swaziland were rest days at the local hotel pool with Gabby and Amy. We’d order a pizza, soak up the wifi and the sun, and take a dip in the pool! But on this day, we didn’t check the weather before we left and it ended up looking like this!
