Sometimes life throws ya lemons and ya have to stand there in the lemon storm and figure out what ya gonna to do about it… Sometimes that very lemon storm changes the trajectory of your life and a few years later you are standing in the same place as you were then but with a mind full of new ideas and heart overflowing with love for new people.

The thing about lemon storms is they can’t be tracked or prepared for like other storms.  You just wake up one morning and BAM you are struck in the head with a lemon the size of Texas.  Take it from me, those darn storms hurt like all hell and can take the wind right out of you if you give them the chance.  My Texas sized lemon came in the form of a divorce in the summer of 2014.  My parents had had enough of each other and called in quits… Yes, the story is more intricate than that, but that is not a story for today.  For now, it is enough to know that it happened.  However, today I want to tell you about my lemonade maker.  That’s right, I have one and she is AMAZING!!! It just so happens that today she is turning 36, and I really want her to know how much I thank the good Lord for her.

God masterfully used both the lemon storm and my lemonade maker to reach into my brokenness and pull out the bits of me that I was hiding for fear of rejection.  The storm ripped open my soul so that my friend could see in enough to remind me of who I am and who made me the way I am.

Amy Tripple, You are my lemonade maker.  On days when the sky rains sour yellow fruit, you pour sugar into the puddles and do a quirky dance until I am laughing and the sun is shining again.  You are an overcomer in times of trial, an encourager in times of doubt, and the very best listener I have ever encountered.  Our hearts are made of the very same stuff, our arms match, and I am honored to call you a sister friend.  I love you and I hope that today you celebrate you and who you are… because who you are is absolutely incredible.

Happiest of Birthdays, My dear heart!

Love, Katie

All for now…
