Hey!
I’m just now filling in all the basics here. I had a post in
the About section, including a sweet picture of my Mom, but it was more like a regular post, so I put it here:

“About” boxes are hard for me. I start racking my brain for witty
and interesting ways to present myself accurately (or better than so)
to people who might not have met me before. Then my thoughts extend to
self presentation through various forms of digital media, our culture
of method acting, and I wonder when, if ever, I actually present myself
accurately to anyone.

…did I mention that I majored in Anthropology and did lots of research on online identity?

I love Anthropology because it essentially let me study
everything: languages, religion, literature, music, geography, history,
politics, economics, and the connections in between. I’m actually
really passionate about those first four things, and would happily do
without the last two.

Now that ten-page essay tests aren’t keeping me in the library
until odd hours of the night, I’m able to focus on my other favorite
things: playing piano and guitar, painting, reading, writing, and
Ultimate Frisbee. You’ll also find me hanging out in coffee shops with
Fair Trade espresso drinks, making up obnoxious games to embarrass my
friends in public (such as Shannon, pictured with me below, in one of those coffee shops), and baking
unhealthy things with my 6 beautiful roommates. Snowboarding would be
on that list, but funneling my funding into this World Race thing is
going to keep that out of my focus for a while. Kansas isn’t all *that*
close to Colorado.

As exciting as this is, no one who knows me well would tell you that
they’re surprised about me signing up for the World Race. The general
response has been “11 countries in 11 months? Sounds like you!” My mom
says so reluctantly, but my parents were the first to get me into
overseas ventures. (Here’s my mom now!)

Since age 5 when my family spent a year in France, I’ve loved
everything about traveling, from strange foods and unfamiliar languages
to noisy train stations and crowded airports. Yeah… I love train
stations. My lovely Brit friend Rachael tells me I’ve got “itchy feet”,
which is a lovely Brit version of having been bit by the travel bug.
Knowing I’ll be traveling with a purpose just makes my feet itchier.

As I write this, I’ve got seven months until the Race, six until
training camp, and five and a half until my sister marries her awesome
fiance. Until then, keep up with me on my “normal” blog too. Heads up though: a lot of my crazy
“anthropology” thoughts end up there.
