“The Lord Our God is One”
I’m back from Greece! It was a beautiful trip and I found myself so many times just in awe of God’s creation. So many times I was speechless of the beauty that I saw on this trip just alone in the physical aspects of the land and the sea. The Greek islands are some of the most incredible, dreamlike places especially at sunset.(This is a picture of the island of Mykonos at sunset)
My friend Jen and I arrived in Athens on a Friday night and by Saturday morning we were rested and ready to explore Athens and the Acropolis. We spent hours wandering around the ginormous stone monuments and structures. Just in awe that after thousands of years (almost 2000 years) they are still standing (with much help and restoration). Just to walk on the ground that millions have walked on throughout the years. To think of the history that had occurred in this place — Awesome! If you look back to Acts 17: 16-34 Paul’s journey and work in Athens. He is called to council in what is called the Ancient Agora, he taught and converted many Athenians to Christians on Areopagus Hil, in the theatres and surrounding areas. It was just moving to walk on this ground where he walked over a thousand years ago. To be at the start of Christianity in Athens. Whoa!

When we got back to our hotel that night I opened my devotional and how fitting it was that this was the passage. Deuteronomy 6:4 “The Lord our God is one Lord (the only Lord).” How appropriate that his be my devotional for the day after a visit to Athens. Athens is a city with such a history full of worshipping many gods. It was crazy! I probably use that word too much and I know I did that day, but to think about the idea of worshipping so many gods. One for everything and a temple of some sort was constructed for each of them. Can you imagine running around to each temple for everything you need in life? They carved statues for their gods, they could see these gods and find them within temple walls. Their gods had limits, they were trapped inside stone and could only do certain things for the people.

I have a God who is limitless. Who I constantly seek out and search for. Who I can’t find trapped inside temple walls. Who is always near and who I can always talk to and pray to. Who is there for me unconditionally. He is ONE. He is ALL I need and He will provide everything because He is everything and He is Love. Athens was beautiful both in its buildings and history, but more so in its reminder that my God is the One and Only and all I will ever need.
Below are so more pictures of my trip around the islands and to Turkey! I will put them all in the “Browse Photos” section on the left side so make sure you check that out for more! Thanks everyone for all the prayers and love while I was away. Wish you all could have been there!
