I have been in Thailand for two months now, and I have been soaking in every precious moment. My team is working with YWAM again this month. The first two weeks we were here we worked in my host’s rice fields. It was hard work, but I really enjoyed it. It was a great bonding experience for my team. I need you to understand that a rice field is not your average farming field. It’s more like a pond of mucky water with rice growing in it and there are all sorts of creatures swimming and crawling around in there. We didn’t wear shoes either we just wore socks. It was the unique experience, to say the least. I gained a major appreciation for the production of rice because it’s a whole lot of tedious work and we eat it with almost every meal. That’s a lot of rice!!
Our primary ministry is teaching English. We have been to about eight different schools where we run English Camps. They last are two or three days and my teammates, and I teach basic English classes. We’ve been teaching a variety of different lessons depending on the grade. Some of my favorite classes are with the kindergarteners. I love their energy; at times it can be a little frustrating because of the language barrier, but they are SO cute!! The first graders are pretty sweet, too.
Ministry has looked a lot different from what I would’ve expected. Some days it’s hard knowing that I am in the sex trafficking capital of the world and not doing anything about it. However, God has placed me with an amazing host family, and although I haven’t seen many extraordinary miracles, He has taught me that ministry happens in every day life. I can fully trust that He knew what was best when He placed me here.
I am moving to Africa in less than two weeks. I have had a pretty incredible time in Asia, but I’m ready to experience new cultures and see God move in new ways in Africa. Please keep my squad and me in your prayers! Merry Christmas all the way from Thailand!
