I’ve never been one to start up conversations with strangers about my faith. I’ve always wanted to be able to do that, but I’ve never been brave enough. I have no problems approaching strangers to ask them to take a picture, or to do the actions to “I’m a Little Teapot” for a youth photo scavenger hunt. But I’ve never been brave enough to then turn the conversation to something more meaningful.

I know that’s something that will have to change this year because I will be spending a lot of time talking to stragners about my faith. So when the guy next to me on the bus decided that we should talk all the way to campus, I saw it as an opportunity to learn. Instead of explaining that I should be studying and pulling out a book, I introduced myself. And sure enough, it wasn’t long into the conversation that the topic turned to religion, God and faith.

Now, you might be expecting some great story about somebody finding Jesus on an Edmonton city bus. I’m going to disappoint you on that one. We each shared our beliefs with each other very open and honestly, but then we got off the bus and went our separate ways. His life wasn’t changed, and he probably won’t even remember our conversation next week. But it was a huge step for me. Its the first time I’ve ever looked for an opportunity to turn the conversation with a stranger towards God. Its probably the first time I’ve talked confidently about God and what He means to me on a crowded city bus.

Training camp does not officially start until this weekend, but I believe God’s training for me has already begun. He has been preparing me for this trip for a while, but my training just took another huge step on an Edmonton City Bus.
