Well, once again it’s time for my Top 11 Blog. Kenya (month seven) is already drawing to a close! We leave for Uganda on Wednesday. Time is flying by, and the memories are building. Again, I will be adding in more photos if I ever get faster internet.

11. Kenyan Food

The food this month makes the list of memories because all the stories you’ve ever heard about African food are absolutely true. Goat meat and rice, lentils and flat bread, goat heart, and of course…ugali. This month we are eating for nourishment and to sustain our bodies rather than for any sort of enjoyment.

10.  Music Videos

Pastor Patrick, our contact here, has put out a CD of Swahili worship music. The next step for him is to produce a music video, but it is extremely expensive for that to happen here. So, the incredibly talented Joel and Emily are helping him out! With their high quality cameras and laptops they have filmed and are creating a music video for Pastor P. If the scenes I’m in make the final cut, then I’m in a Kenyan music video!

9. Giant waterfall

Kenya is apparently the land of waterfalls, and we had the opportunity to visit two of them. The second we visited was HUGE and absolutely beautiful. Some filming of the music video was done there, and it was a nice relaxing afternoon.

8. Jeremy’s birthday

Jeremy, the son of our host family, celebrated his third birthday while we were here. We helped his parents make up 120 little bags of slices of cake, cookies, candy and Kenyan doughnuts, and then brought them to Jeremy’s school, where he passed one out to every kid in the school. After school, we had a bunch of people over for cake, and a delicious dinner of goat (which Joel killed for use earlier in the day)

7. Preaching

Our ministry here is working with Releasing Destinies Ministries. Its a small church, but very enthusiastic, and very passionate. Our second week I had the opportunity to preach. I found out on Saturday night I was preaching the next day, and I had NO IDEA what to speak on. It happened to be prophecy night, however, and one of the prophecies I got was simply the Parable of the Talents, so that is what I spoke on. This is now the third or fourth time I’ve preached, and every time I like it more and more.

6. Team Cooking Night

If normal Kenyan food made the list because of how bland it is, then the nights our team cooked makes the list for how delicious it was. Maybe it was just because we were so used to ugali and rice, but the nights we made loaded fries with ground beef and grilled vegetables, or chapatti flatbread fajitas with guacamole, were delicious! Joel and Joy are awesome in the kitchen, so with the rest of us chopping and helping out as sous chefs the meals were creative and delicious.

5. Dutch Blitz

This being a slow month gave us a lot of time for team bonding – over games of Dutch Blitz. I think we averaged playing at least six games a day. Sometimes individually, sometimes on teams. Unfortunately, our cards are disintegrating, and may only last another month. But we’re going to make the most of these cards while they last!

4. Mutatus in the Mud

The day we went to the giant waterfall ended with adventure as our mutatu van got stuck in the mud. It took three hours, several kind strangers, and getting really dirty for us to get to the end of the road. We were covered in mud, cold, wet, and exhausted, but loving every second of it.

3. Behind the Waterfall

The other waterfall we visited this month was unique in that we were able to go behind the waterfall and stand looking out through the water. It was absolutely beautiful. We also got to see some little bush babies, and then picnicked on the rocky bluffs overlooking the valley and the falls.

2. Christmas in July

V-Squad is one of the few World Race Squad that will not be celebrating a World Race Christmas as we return home at the end of November. So Team Wreckonciled celebrated Christmas in July. We made a giant meal with more food than we could eat, read the Christmas story, and made each other prophetic Christmas cards. We ended the day with a Secret Santa gift exchange. I believe I got the best gift ever.A live chicken. Thanks Joel!

1.  Safari

One of my dreams came true this month when we went on a safari. We got to see zebras, giraffes, lions, rhinos, flamingos, antelope, buffalo, warthogs, and much more!

Thank you all for your prayers and support so far on the race. It means so much to me.

Also, I will be posting a video about pushing the van through the mud, but the file is too large to load. However, we did manage to load a trailer for it….
