This month has been 100% different than last month ministry wise. Last month, we were surrounded by other Christians that were very open about what they believed, so it was pretty easy to share what the Lord was saying with them, and found a lot of them sharing with us as well. In Wujal Wujal, we have found some very strong Christians, like Gary and Wendy, who work in the Council office. Almost every time I’ve talked to Wendy since I’ve been here she has been able to tell me some way she is working for the Lord or some way that she sees the Lord working in the community. However, this isn’t the norm for most of the people we met. While almost everyone says they are a Christian when you ask them, no one really seems interested in talking about God (not all that different from the states when you think about it I guess).

One of our goals for the month was to set up home groups or basically like fellowship nights. (They don’t currently have a preacher making the trip up here so there’s not really church services going on). Those have been a lot harder to get together than you would think. No one really has seemed interested in coming.

The night of our last group meeting attempt, I had pretty much given up on anybody coming. We had made our rounds to all the houses and everyone either seemed “busy” or they weren’t home. So we decided just to pray for a little bit and have our own time of worship. While we were praying, one guy came walking up. His name is Russell, and he was someone that we had kind of talked on and off without throughout the past couple of weeks. It ended up being such a cool night. We got to sing songs like “Amazing Grace” with him, and then a couple of us just shared some things God was saying with him. But what was really cool is then he shared what he believed and it was just simple kind of the way I think God wants it to be. Russell just said, “When I’m walking down the road, God is walking with me and holding my hand”. Just this one man deciding to step out and come hangout with “the Americans” change my entire view of the month of ministry. I learned that numbers really don’t matter. God says, “For where two or three gather together says my followers, I am there among them.” (Matt. 18:20)
